The market, opened 1/4 of a cent higher for all deliveries as com- pared with Saturday's closing rates.

Very steady conditions. prevailed on the market throughout the .session in sympathy with favourable advices received from London and New York. Good enquiry for "actuals" was in evidence whilst also fair buying interest for forward positions was displayed by dealers and speculators.

After some business having been transacted on the basis of quot- ed rates, prices registered an advance of 3/8 cent for all deliveries on the publication of Total Malayan export-Agures of 40,992 tons for September as against 47, 248 tons for August 1938.

Towards the close of the session the market became very firm on persistent trade and speculative buying, business being reported at as high as 291 for January-March delivery."

Market steady with little first-hand selling and profit-taking. which were well absorbed,

Rubber stocks held in the United Kingdom showed a decrease of 818 tons for the week ending October 3, 1938.

NEW YORK COTTON.

Prices opened higher on botter advices from Liverpool and the other foreign markets and further advanced on foreign buying. Later,« there was a partial reaction, on hedge-selling and liquidation together with the easiness of the stock market, but prices rullled on Liverpool and Bombay buying of late months. Trade price-fixing and short- covering.

NEW YORK RUBBER

Somewhat lower advices from the primary markets caused this market to open downwards and prices thereafter ruled irregularly steady, being mainly influenced by the movements on the stock mar- ket. Some realising set in later and there was a further decline to- wards the close.

CHICAGO WHEAT

The firmness of the Liverpool market caused a better opening here and prices advanced further on reports of frost in the Argen- tine. Later, conditions settled down to a quiet and narrow market. with traders inclined to be bearish, mainly on the large supplies available in the United States and other export countries,
