(BY C. A. L. RICKETT)..

| Secretary. Hongkong Sharebrokers' Association

The market opened easfer at the beginning of the week, and later, with the approach of the crisis in Europe, business practically ceased and prices were allowed to remain entirely nominal for two days. There was some evidence, however. of nervousness and isolated sales were reported well below quotation Towards the end of the week the market reacted to the easing of the European situation with a strong recovery in price levels, and bida had to be raised well over- Some quotation to obtain shares. profit taking, however, has been encountered at the close of busi- ness, resulting in a quieter under- tone, although price levels have been well maintained.

The market opened 1/4 of a cent higher for all deliveries, as com- pared with Friday's closing quotations.

Shortly after the opening the market displayed a steady under- tone with fair demand for "actuals." However, dealers and specula- tors were disinclined to operate to any larger extent preferring to await further developments. Although it is generally felt that the market will go higher in the near future on improving statistical po- sition supported by good trade-enquiry, yet it would seem to be ad- visable to confine purchases to any declines.

Later in the session, prices registered a decline of 1/4 cent on rather heavy profit-taking, the market closing with a steady, but quict undertone.

LONDON RUBBER

--NEW YORK, COTTON

The market was inactive throughout the session and, although the undertone was steady, changes were small with orders quite even- ly divided between trade and foreign buying as against New Orleans and local selling. Towards the close, there was a firmer feeling on better stock market news

NEW YORK BUBBER

Prices were firm on moderate general buying, under the leader- ship of London dealer demand anda steady enquiry from manufac

request. Hedge-selling by turers. December position was most in speculative and foreign interests was well absorbed.

CHICAGO WHEAT

The market to-day was extremely quiet, being at present course of readjusting itself to normal conditions after the recent European uncertainties. Lack of encouragement from abroad, bellef that export demand has been sufficiently suppled and dissatisfaction with Government methods were all restricting factors.
