The market continues to be in- Auenced by the European situa- tion and took an easter turns the political position became more grave.

While there appears to be no undue nervousness to sell. "buyers are inclined

hold back for cheaper prices. In the meantime the undertone is quiet and the market appears to be awaiting the trend of events in Europe.

Hong Kong Banks were reported from London' at £85, resulting in local sales at $1430 Hotels came in for sustained enquiry but at the close of business were obtainable at $6.70. Electrics "eased to $58 with sales reported at this figure. Lands were marked down with sales at $37 70. Wharves changed hands at $128 and sales were re- ported in Trams down to. 318.85. Providents had buyer's at $8.65 for the old shares and $6 for the new. Dalry Farms were offering at 5254 with sales reported at $251 (cum div.). China Lights (old) changed hands down to $10.00.

The Hong Kong and Kowloon Wharf and Godown Co. has an- nounced an interim dividend, of

3 payable on October 11, 1938.

Gold Mining "stocks have been quiet and, with the exception of San Mauricio, prices are slightly lower than at the close of business for the previous week.

Benguet Consolidated has an- nounced an interim dividend of, 30 centavos payable on September 30. Atoks have announced a 1 centavo October 1. dividend payable on

In-sympathy with easter conditions prevailing in London and New York the market ruled very quiet and dull. Very little activity was displayed by dealers and speculators, whilst only a moderatë volume of business was transacted.

However, towards the close of the session slightly steadier con- dition prevailed on some trade buying" resulting in a price advance of 1/8 cent for all deliveries. Closing tone was quiet but steady.

The market is redecting continued uncertainty with regard to the political situation in Europe and it would appear that sustained higher price-levels cannot be expected, pending clarification of the xituation.

The International Rubber Regulation. Committee publish in their August issue of the Statistical Bulletin the following figures:
