Lawn Bowls:

PORTUGAL FAVOURED FOR INTERNATIONAL

But Scotland Expected To

Put Up Good Fight

By BR. Swiller

The Happy Valley Lawn Bowls competition is drawing to a close. Cralgengower are the hot favourites, having disposed of two strong rivals in the Police and the Civil Servants, Though they have not yet won the Vat 69 Whisky Cup, their position is practically unaa- ailable, as they have only to beat the weak Hong Kong Football Club team, who have yet to win a match, to have possession of the Cup. SEASON'S END"

BY R. O. Y.

Baseball fans were treated to a brilliant display of pitch- ing in the final game of the season when the Americans. en Sunday, defeated the Hong Kong All Stars by five runs to nil. Owing to rain, the game was called at the end of the sixth inning, but it is extremely doubtful if the local nine could have staged a rally even if the game had gone the full dis-

tance.

Mike Mulligan, hurling for the winners. had the game well in hand right from the start allowing the opposition only two hits and striking out twelve batters thus almost equalling Dick Shim's local record of 14 strike outs in a seven Innings game chalked up against the Japanese Baseball Club, in

1936.

Mulligan so varied his deliveries that not one of the opposing hit- ters was able to get set. but dazz- ling speed with perfect control was the keynote of his work; it is in-. teresting to.. note that five of his team mates did not get a single delding chance,
