The market opened 1/8 of a cent higher for all deliveries as com- pared with Tuesday's quotations.

Better sentiment on the London Rubber Exchange coupled with, reports of a relaxation of the European political tension caused higher opening-rates with active demand for "actuals" by principal consum- ing centres. However, dealers and speculators were disinclined to en- ter into larger forward commitments, preferring to await further de- velopments, particularly on the New York markets. Also the sp- proaching meeting of the International Rubber Regulation Committee on Monday next exercised a restraining influence.

Subsequently the market encountered easiness on liquidation and speculative selling which caused prices to gradually decline by 3/8 cent for all deliveries on a narrow market.

Closing tone was quiet and dull.

Malayan Domestic Rubber Exports during August are estimated: at 29,000 tons as against 26,000 tons in July and 34,000 tons in June.

NEW YORK COTTON

After a decline of 8 cents had checked hedge-selling, Trading turned more active and good foreign and local buying appeared. Later. the market advanced further on more favourable European news and the firmness of stocks, but, finally partially reacted on pró- fit-taking and closed steady.

Prices touched new lows on liquidation and disappointing reports from the foreign markets together with a renewal of Russian selling pressure. Later, there was a fair rally on reports of ingreased domes- tic demand, an improvement in the markets abroad and the strength of Wall Street.
