The market opened 1/4 of a cent higher for all deliveries as compared with Friday's closing quotations., '
Early in the morning the market displayed a steady undertone. due to steadiness on the American Security and Rubber Exchanges. which was attributable to reports of continued, much improved American business-activity, particularly in Steel and Motorcar pro- duction, coupled with overnight news of a more hopeful outlook on the political situation in Europe.
Good enquiry for "spot" Rudber was in eyidence. However, only a moderate volume of business on the basis of quoted rates was tramacted for Trade and speculative accounts, the approaching holl days exercising a restraining influence on operators.
Towards the close of the session, prices declined by 1/4 cent for all deliveries on general liquidation and profit-taking, particularly by Chinese interests, the market closing with a very quiet undertone.
Despite the advance that has already taken place, it is generally believed that a further upward movement will be witnessed as trade in U.S.A. and elsewhere improves and shipments begin to time for- ward in smaller volume. In view of these anticipations - it would seem to be advisable to follow a policy of conservative accumulation.

EFFECT
ON PRICES
A MAJOR WAR
Discussing the effect on prices of a major war. if it breaks out again, an American writer recalls the conditions obtaining at the start of the Great War, when prices of wheat, cotton and common stocks went up, and asks if conditions will be the same or will changed world economic conditions bring about a different set price-making Influences.

REVIEW
The market, sensitive to the strained political situation' in Europe, took an easier turn during the week, but later, as European affairs became clear- er, prices improved and a firm- er tone was evident.
