HENLEIN'S INTERVIEW WITH CZECH PRESIDENT WATCHED WITH UNIVERSAL INTEREST

Momentous Meeting In Prague

Will Decide Country's

Fate

London, August 20.

It is reliably learned in London that the Czech President, Dr. Edouard Benes, will rective Herr Henlein. leader of the Sudeten Germans, in Prague today.

The meeting is stated to be one of the utmost importance, and will probably decide the future of negotiations.

If the result of the meeting is favourable, there will be a real possibility of resumed negotiations between, the Czech Government and the Sudeten Germans.

:

If the result a negative. the next step will probably be a declaration by Herr Hitler at the Nuremburg Nazi Congress, when he will probably make certain suggestions.

An attitude of calm prevails in the Czech camp, and the press is showing..a moderation which is in marked contrast to the tone adopted by the Ger- man-newspapers-(Reufer).

According to this statement, the situation is regarded as extremely grave. The view is held that, if settlement of the Czech question is to he reach- ed, concessions from both sides are urgently needed.

.. RULE OF AMBASSADOR

It is still uncertain whether the British Ambassador to. Germany Sir Nevile Henderson, will return to Berlin with new instructions.

The impression Kro.3 stronger in political circies. here that, on the one hand, the British Government wishes. to await the outcome of the Prague conversations but, on the other hand, intends to give the Ambassador more implicit ' Instructions which will enable him to clearly define the Bri~ tish attitude on his return to Berlin,-(Transocean),
