THE INTERPLAY OF

DOCTRINE AND ACTION

"This Do, And Thou Shalt Live".

The Rt. Rev. Bishop R. O. Hall preached the following sermon at St. John's Cathedral yesterday. He said:-

t

Last Sunday I spoke of the paradox that underlies the Christian doctrine of the Incarnation, The more intensely we become con- vinced that here is God Himself made flesh, God Himself intervening in His creation. to full His purposes-the more deeply we become convinced that this is the final truth about God. In other words, the more definite our belief in God becomes, the less ready are we to be exclusive, the less ready are we to be exclusive, the less ready are we to regard anyone as in any way outside the fullness of the love of God. The paradex is that, the more" intensely the Christian creed matters to us, the more eagerly we recognise the God we know in Christ in all goodness, all beauty, all truth averywhere:

This paradox comes from

the! When he says the creed, the Chris fact that we are dealing with tan is rather like Robinson Crusoe an act of God and not with an idea finding a footprint in the rand. about God. The Incarnation is a saying. "I believe a man made this revealing act and consequently re-footprint. Historically, the yeals God as active in that sort of arose from way all the time everywhere.
