The New State has completed its twelfth year, says the official bulletin of Portugal's Secretariado da Propaganda Nacional. whole country feels that May 28 should be regarded as a national date, for the bloodless revolution of 1926 put an end to a state of affairs which was fast leading Portugal to atter and irretrievable ruin. What has been done in this country under the new regime is almost a miracle of national recovery. The work achieved in the last few years. under the leadership of Dr. Oliveira Salazar-whose ability as a statesman in now acknowledged in many countries be- sides Portugalis the best assurance and clearest proof that the new political and social order is indeed in harmony with the coun- try's true interests and possibilities.

The State has endeavoured to follow up whatever was organic and fundamental in the traditions of Portugal so as to lead her once more to the path of her former greatness. Today we can be right- ly proud of Portugal's tree, un- tramelled position, her stability "and growing economic prosperity. which would seem to herald a new era no less glorious than those in the past that made Portugal famous all over the world,

striven to mould the new State according to the broad lines of past tradition, so that Portugal may regain the status which was hers when she was con- sulted over any matter of in- ternational politics.
