AWAY FROM WORK!
AND FULL PAY FOR TWO WEEKS!
Paria, August 16. The industrial suburbs of this city were the scene of a wholesale exodus yesterday as over 300,000 metallurgical workers left for the country and seaside for a fortnight vacation with full pay.
JAN-MARCH
up 1/2 Influenced by very steady conditions prevailing in London and New York the market opened 5/8 of a cent higher for forward op tions as compared with Friday's closing rates.
Throughout the sesalon the market displayed a firm undertone. Demand for "spot" Rubber was very good whilst dealers and specula- tors were large buyers of forward positions due to expectations of increasing tightness in actual Rubber caused by recent heavy sales by Chinese dealers due to the tense Far Eastern political situation. Proft-taking at quoted rates was easily absorbed by trade buying and on further persistent general buying sellers became very scarce. In view of this fact it was very difficult to arrange business except at a substantial premium over quoted rates. Considerable · relaxa- tion of the political tension both in Europe and the Far East, the encouraging action of the security markets in USA. as well as in- creasingly better prospects for much improved business activity, par- ticularly in USA, combined to bring about an optimistic sentiment with zagard to the future trend of the Rubber market.
After business having been reported as high as 28-1/8 cents for for January-March options and at correspondingly higher more distant deliveries the market closed with a steady undertone.
