Mr. Morgenthau's Busy Visit Appeal To Peace

Paris, July 24. Well-informed circles here declared

Saturday night that to the stay in Paris of the great significance should be attached Secretary of, the American Treasury. Mr. Henry Morgenthan who ar- rived on Saturday morning in Boulogne by the ss. Statendam and proceeded at once to Paris where he will have a series of important conversations.

The programme drawn up for his visit permits the conclusion to be drawn that Mr. Morgenthau has been entrusted by President Roosevelt with a special mission that concerns the foreign political situation, just as much as the currency and economic situation of France.

The visitor will, on Sunday morn- ing, wait on President Lebrun and Mme. Lebrun and will afterwards lunch with the American Ambas- sador In Chantilly.

Sunday evening. will be spent with the French Economics Minis- ter. M. Patenorte, and on Monday he will see the Finance Minister M. Marchandeau. In the evening

Bonnet will given an official luncheon party in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs where Mr. Morgenthau will again meet Messrs Daladier, Marchandeau and Patenotre so that when Mr. Mor- genthau, who is regarded here as a personal friend and confidant of Fresident Roosevelt, leaves Paris on Tuesday he will have spent two extremely busy, days.

FLOOD THREATENS NORTH CHINA

Hankow. July 23. The Pelping-Liaoning Railway and the northern" sector of the Tientsin-Pukow Railway are men- aced by flood as a result of the collapse of sections of the dykes | along the Yangting River and the South Grand Canal at Tangkuan- tun, according to a Tientsin mes- sage.

Heavy downpours in Peiping and Tientsin during the last few days have caused part of the cities to be submerged in water. In Peiping the water at the 'low-lying districts near the city gates is almost knée deep. Truffle between inside and outside the city has been rendered extremely difficult. Telegraph and telephone wires have been damaged at hundreds of places.

Meanwhile, it is learned that mountain freshets have damaged the Peiping-Sulyuan Raliway track at Tatung and Pinstichuan. Traffic on the rallway has been dis- rupted.--(Central News)."
