CLASH BETWEEN JAPANESE AND SOVIETS FEARED

Frontier Crossing Causes Grave

Concern In Tokyo

Tokyo, July 16.

In Japan it seems seriously to be feared that in violating the frontier at Manchukuo, at Ban- chun, where they have taken possession of some of the Mills, Soviet Russia intends to enter the Far Eastern conflict on the side of China.

As reported from Hainking, Soviet Russian troops, despite Japanese protests, have not only not withdrawn "but have entrenched themselves in new positions. The attitude of the Japanese "press to- wards Soviet Russia is, therefore, becoming more and more threatening.

One Japanese news agency declares that the Supreme Military Command in Manchukuo and Korea expect the immediate with- drawal of the Soviet troops as the only means of arriving at a peaceful solution of the matter, otherwise Japan is fully determined to bring the position back to normal by use of military power.

It is stated that a final and binding delineation of the frontier between Manchukuo and Soviet Russla is urgently necessary in or der to make future Icidents impossible.

In military circles it is declared that provision has been made for the strongest military protection`p! Manchukuo despite the war with China.

Encroachment by Moscow on Manchukuo would be, stoutly re sisted by force and in view of the attitude" taken by the Japanese military authorities, the outbreak of a struggle between Japanese soldiers and the Soviet Russian troops that have penetrated into Manchukuo must be expected unless the latter are Immediately with..... drawn.-(Transocean),

The Deputy Foreign Commissar replied that he had received Information concerning the alleged incident, but that he would Insti- tute an Investigation.
