RAIDED

Aerodromes And Defence Works Destroyed

From Our Own Correspondent)

Canton, July 16. Thirty-two Japanese planes subjected Yinglak, on the Canton- Hankow Railway; to a severe raid this morning when over forty persons were killed.

That the air raid was intended to kill civilians was attested by the fact that the railway was not damaged As the railway is pro- tected by anti-aircraft- guns, which went into action against the enemy raiders, the bombing was carried out from a great akitude.

"Kiangchaen. just about 10 miles north of Canton on the same. railway, was also hombed this morning, and over fifteen were kill- ed and scores were wounded.

Owing to the late rising of the moon, there was no rald to-night. After supper, many people were getting ready to leave for places of refuge in the event of an air rald as on Thursday and Friday night, but no alarm was sounded. locate, the whereabouts of the Jap- anese miniature bases at San Tap and Kao Lan Islands south of Chungshan county early on Friday The aerodromes, aefence works and wharves of these two islands were destroyed, according to ver- nacular reparts.
