Chienklangkou, on the north bank of the Yangtse, near Anking, was recaptured today by the Chinese after desperate fighting, according to a Chinese commanique which adds that the Japanese troops stationed at Chungmou, on the Lungbai"Rafiway midway between Kaifeng and Chengchow, have withdrawn in a sonthensterly direction, as a result of the flood.--(Reuter).

Dramatic Rescue
Considerable excitement was caused in the harbour about. 10:45 last night when a large junk, belleved to be fully laden with a cargo of kerosene, caught fire while anchored off Causeway Bay,

A firefloat was soon on the scene and began to pump water on the ill-fated boat which, as abe drifted along. left behind a trafi of burning oll on the surface of the water. This the three other launches which came

--DRAMATIC RESCUE
A dramatic rescue, was effected by a European police sergeant who, noticing-a --woman-struggling to free herself from pieces of timber which trapped her on board, swam to the side of the burning boat | and released the victim. He then [helped her into the police Isanch. The woman. who was suffering from severe burns, was later con- veyed to hospital, as were several Lother injured members of the
crew.
