Colony Trade Continues To Maintain Increase

Exports Up By More Than

One Million Pounds

Imports of merchandise in April totalled $59.3 millions (£3,6 millions) as compared with $54.8 millions (3.4 millions) in April, 1917, and exports $51.4 millions (£3.2 millions) as compared with $34.1 millions (£21 millions) according to a report Issued by the Imports and Exports Department (Statistical Branch) yesterday.

The report states that the combined values of imports and ex- ports of merchandise (excluding Treasure) as declared during the month of April, 1938 totalled $110.7 millions (26.8 millions) as com- pared with $89.8 millions (£5.5 millions) In April, 1937,

In terms of local currency the total visible trade of the Colony (excluding Treasure) increased by 21.4 per cent. in April, 1938 as compared with April, 1937, and by 23.6 per cent in terms of sterling.

Imports of merchandise in April, 1338 increased by 82 per cent. in terms of local currency, and by 5.9 per cent, in terms of aterling. Ex- ports of merchandise in April, 1938 Increased by 50.7 per cent in termna of local currency, and by 52.4 per cent in terms of sterilng.
