LIEUTENANT-COLONEL R.C.B. ANDERSON, M. C., The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, who was appointed in 1936 as the first Re- Kular Commandant of the Hong Kong Volunteer Defence Corps and who is leaving the Colony in July, presided for the last time at the annual dinner and presentation of prizes of the Corps held at the Volunteer Headquarters last night.
There was a large" atiendance including many distinguished guests, among them being His Excellency the Governor, Slr Geoffry North- cote., K.C.M.G.. Honorary Colonel of the Corps, who distributed the
· prizes, and Brigadier F.W.L. Bissett.. D.S.O, M.C.
IN HIS SPEECH IN WHICH HE GAVE AN INTERESTING and comprehensive survey of the Corps activities during the past twelve months, Colonel Anderson said tha: on the whole it had been a suc cessful year for the Corps. It had certainly been a very busy one for 214 new members had been enrolled and two new units formed, a Chinese Company and a Corps Pay Section. The creation of a Chinese Company, said the Com nandant, was an innovation in the Courts but he was glad to be able to say that it had already proved a successful one.
Referring to recruiting Colonel Anderson remarked: "I know that there are a large number of men this Colony who are not averse to volunteering but who cannot make up their minds to take the plunge. It is to them and to them only that I wish to appeal this evening".
