STABILISATION MEASURES

Canton, May 2.

·Mayor Tsans Yattg-fu, in his concurrent capacity as Provincial Commissioner of Finance, Loday adopted certain measures to stabilise the exchange value of local

and

national currencies. owing to the rise of Hong Kong notex

Bix demands for Hong Kong currency and unscrupulous specu lation are the main canses of the slump of the local dollar, which is worth 60 cents Hong Kong cur- rency. The new plan of Commis- sioner Tsang will arrest further depreciation and will bring about

return to normal value.

The Ministry of Finance has publicly commended Commissioner Tsang for handling the provincial revenus during the present dim- cult period (International).

PRICE OF RICE

Canton, May 2 While foreign exchange is strict- ly controlled as a means to pre- vent the rise of the premium of Hong Kong currency, bona fide importers of rice may apply to the Central Bank of China for foreign currency to pay for the imports.

Import of foreign rice up to 750,000 quintals or 1,500,000 plculs is permitted by the Ministry of Finance on deferred payment of tariff as a means to bring down the price of rice.
