The number of workers whose wages "increased and the total amount of the increase were great- er than in any year since 1920.
There was an aggregate net increase estimated at £788 in weekly full-time rates of 5,181,000 workers. In all industries, including agriculture, the average level is estimated to have risen by over four per cent~(British Wireless).
