Clay Bird Shooting On The Kowloon City Ranges
Clay Pigeon Shooting was first introduced as à Section of the Hong Kong Rifle Association at the origina! Sunday shoot on Novem ber 28, 1937. Since then the range has been open to all members during the mornings of each successive Sunday Shoot,
The Eange was built by Mr. Wong Bor, of the Sporting Arms Store, and is operated by his staff. Originally a simple rope release, was used for fighting the Birds, but recently an automatic lever controlled trap has been installed.
Mr. Wong Bor has also a shop built at the back of the H.K.R.A. Clubhouse which caters for British made cartridges besides sundry other items for riße shooting.
On the opening day Mr. Wong presented two silver cups for com- petition in single and double events. They were both won by Lt. Cmdr. J.W. Studholme, R.N., who is a noted shot. Since then, how- ever, new talent has been discovered, Mr. Ashby and Mr. Bateman of the H.K.N.V.F. figuring prominently. They, at last, seem to have found the secret of breaking the "Birds' which until recently, appear- ed to have been made of, sust, fron and quite impervious to shef, and shell
The Honorary Secretary of this Club is Captain W.C. Newton, of the 1st Bn Middlesex Regiment, who is always overjoyed to greet new "recruits" who join the Gun Club's activities.
All competitions are based on those that exist at Bisley. England, and all are 'down the Line' shoots, as opposed to "Skeet" 'shooting. During the Buley Meeting of the Association, the Clay Bird range will be open at the following times and the undermentioned com- petitions will be shot of.
P
It is hoped that as many as possible will attend and any dihi- culty about hours of opening' etc., should be taken up with the Hon: Secretary who will try to arrange a convenient time.
Please note that for the daily handicap event, drastic handicap- for three years to play in England.ping will probably occur. A list of these handicaps will be available

SKEET IN HONG KONG
:
The following is an extract from the Shooting Times and British Sportsman:-
SKEET IN HONG KONG
On Boxing Day, 1937, a few of the boys of Hong Kong decided to o get rid of cobwebs collected the previous evening by holding a Skeet 1shoot at Mr. Wong Bor's Skeet ground at Gin Drinkers' Bay, Tsinwan" 1 The following participated:-Lt-Cdr. Studholme, RN. Lt.-Cdr. Jonas, 1 R.N.; LL-Cdr. Gambler, RN; L-Cdr. Nicholson, R.N.; Lt. Massey- 1 Dawson, RN.: Lt. Jenks. R.N.; Capt. Newton, The Middlesex Regi- 2 ment.; Capt. Crawford, The Middlesex Regiment; L Fullthrough, 1The Middlesex Regiment: Capt. Frizelle. Hong Kong Volunteer De- otence Corps: Piper Watson. Hong Kong Volunteer Defence Corps. 1 Messrs. Lane Crawford, Ltd.. purveyed an excellent lunch, while 1 the "boy" Sam Shoo operated the trap with "his customary
-
3 emeciency. Before lunch the majority of the competitors found it difficult to get on the clays, but it was at this time that the outsand- ing performance of the day was achieved by Lt.-Cdr. Studholme. Skeet shooting in Hong Kong is conduced à la Américan plan-25 birds, including the difficult No. 8 position. "Stud.." who has fre- quently scored 24 in the past, obtained the coveted possible, crack- ing 25 birds with 25 shots. This is believed to be the first time such performance has been registered in the Far East. The champion followed this phenomenal round by scoring successively 21, 23 and 24, by which time some members of the handicapping committee developed severe headaches. By some error of judgment Capt. New- ton was very generously handicapped and walked away with most of the "sweep" dollars. A private hate between the Hong Kong Volunteer Defence Corps and the Middlesex Regiment resulted in a win for the former team. Altogether á'most énjoyable day.
