LADY DAY
The use of the term "Lady Day" as applied to the Feast of the Annunciation, which falls on next Thursday, dates back for many years in England. It was often ap- plled also to the feast of the August 15th, the Assumption. "Lady of the Harvest," but i was commonly applied to the spring feast, a day that was often the settling time for Axed rural transactions."

The name had not its origin in England for it is found in the Armenian calendar as long ago 13 the fifth century when the teast of the Annunciation was first in- stituted.

It is the one perhaps that has retained most popularity among modern painters.
