SIRDAR RUMJAHN WINS

IN STRAIGHT SETS

But Was Not Too Impressive

Against W. A. Land

W. A. Land. Army representative, put up a good show against S. A. Ramjahn, one-time Singles champion; and one of the strongest challengers for this year's title. In their Colony Open tournament match at the Hong Kong Cricket Club yesterday,

Rumjahn won by scores of 6-4, 6-4, bui at times he was not at all impressive and, having once go, the ineasure of his opponent, ap- peared to take things easy.

For all that, his old-time briliance was by no means entirely absent and there were occasions when he put on pressure and left Land literally standing.

The loser's forehand was not so'ing up a little, the game became reliable as usual and let him down more interesting, though Teddy was a number of times. His sorties to always well on top. CRICKET REPLAY Hockey Notes

To Be Decided On

March 26?

Though no official decision has yet been made, it is understood that the play-off for the senior cricket league championship, be- tween Cralgengower. Cricket Club and the Indian Recreation Club, will be decided on Saturday, March

26.

JJ

The coming Saturday is ruled out in view of the manoeuvres, and as the League authorities are overse to carrying the season into April, March 28 would appear to be the inevitable choice.

The suggestion in some quarters that a whole-day match be ar- | rariged can safely be left out of the reckoning as the idea is favoured by neither the league authorities nor the Clubs concerned.

The venue will in all probability

be the Hong Kong Cricket Club

ground, scene of last year's in- decisive play-of between ..the Cricket Club and the Indians.
