CHINA PERTURBED BY EUROPEAN SITUATION

GOVERNMENT CIRCLES OPENLY

DENOUNCE HITLER

MR. EDEN TO MAKE STATEMENT

ON HIS RESIGNATION

Hankow, February 21.

CHINESE CIRCLES, BOTIL OFFICIAL AND OTHERWISE, are perturbed over the developments in the European situation within the last twenty-four hours, and are of the opinion that they will have far-reaching consequences in the Far East, says Reuter.

HEER ADOLF HITLER'S ANNOUNCEMENT of Germany's recognition of Manchukue and the resignation of the British Foreign Secretary, Mr. Anthony Eden, has evoked an atmosphere of gloom in Hankow.

The Chinese Government and public circles openly denounce Herr Altier's decision but hesitate to comment on Mr. Eden's resignation.

The opinion is generally expressed here that Mr. Eden, although he is not favoured to drastic 'action in the Far East, has refused to recognise territory acquired by force."

COUNT GRANDI AT DOWNING STREET

A Router Bulletin message from London states that Count Dino Grandi, Italian Ambassador in London, at the invitation of the British Premier, called at No. 10 Downing Street and had a conver- sation with Mr. Neville Chamberlain,

Lord Halifax, Lord President of the Council, is at present in charge of the Foreign Office.

It may be presumed that Mr. Chamberlain is taking active steps

to clear the field for the proposed Anglo-Italian talks.

The Premier has cancelled an engagement to attend the Indus-

trial Fair banquet at the Mansion House last night.

The talks between the Eire Premier, Mr. Eamon De Valera and

his delegation with the British Ministers today have been postponed

as the British Ministers are attending a debate in the House of Commons this afternoon concerning Mr. Eden's resignation

Mr. Malcolm Macdonald, Dominions Secretary, called on Mr. De "Valera at the hotel, regarding the present situation.
