THE ARMY
ROYAL SUSSEX REGIMENT Major W. Holderness. M.C., has been selected for command of the 1st Battalion, The Royal Sussex Regiment, with effect from Febru- ary I. In succession to Lieutenant- Colonel. C. C, Malden, who has been appointed to the Staff from that date.
MADRAS DISTRICT Major-General George Fleming. C.B. C.B.E., DS.O., is to relinquish the appointment of Commander, Madras District, in October. He is to be succeeded by Brigadier E. F. Norton, D.8.0., M.C.. A.D.C.
MECHANIZATION IN INDIA In answer to an inquiry in the Legislative Assembly it was pointed out that the mechanization of British cavalry and infantry units in India was the beginning of 'a series of conversions which would probably be extended to units of the Indian Army.
It was also pointed out that tour British brigades of artillery and other units were already mechanized, as well as the trans- port which served the British and Indian Armies.
