WUCHANG ATTACKED
Ancient City's First Taste Of Japanese Bombing
THICKLY POPULATED
Hankow, February 11.
Wachang, former capital of China, had its first taste of Japanese bombing this afternoon. An unknown number of planes visited the heavily populated and ancient Chinese city at 1.30 p.m.. and dropped bombs on what appeared to be the waterfront dis- trict, and more behind the city. The visitors came in two re- lays. The first time not a single anti-aircraft gun was fired ow- ing to thick low-lying clouds which obscured the raiders.
It was low drone and it gradually became louder, and was then followed by deafening explosions easily audible throughout flankow. The second visit was made ten minutes later. The clouds had apparently thinned as an occasional burst of anti- aircraft fire was heard but no planes could be seen from Han- kow.

ESPITE EFFORTS" to the contrary, it is stated here that the political crisis in, Szechuen, caused by the appointment of General Chang Chun as Chairman of the Provincial Government, in succes- sion to the late General Liu Hsiang, has not yet been settled. *Fi is understood that conferences were held thus deferring General Lu Tso-in's departure by air for Rankow but Chinese official quarters here deeline to make any statement on their outcome.
Meanwhile, Chungking is seething with rumours that the recalcitrant military authorities have Issued an "ultimatum" to the Central Government declaring that they would not have Goneral Chung Chun, even hinting that they will use force if necessary,
It has been officially announced that General Chang Chun has been appointed to command the Peace Preservation Corps In Srechuen, thus strengthening his position at the expense of Generai Wong Fong-iso, popularly named as Leader of the Opposition, who formerly, held this position,
