"FEW MONTHS

(Continued from Page 1)

"Our first order for new tonnage for the Indo-China Steam Naviga- tion Company was booked in 1908 and up to 1925 they were regular customers," sald Mr. Dodwell. "Since then there has been a dis- quieting gap of 13 years, during which we have had no orders for new ships.

**The contract for the Liwo therefore is exceptionally welcome to us and you will be glad to hear that her launching will be follow- ed in a few months' time by that of two larger coasters.

"The Liwo is a rather special vessel for a special trade. She will spend her days battling with the turbulent waters of the Yang- tsze Gorges on the run between Tchang and Chungking. It is a run which demands the maximum efficiency in navigation and a very į high standard of performance on { the part of the ship.

Every precaution has been taken to ensure this performance. A model of the hull has been terted in two experimental tanks; the ship is being built under Lloyds' supervision, and with the skill and care always exercised by Mr. Cock and 'our staff I am con- Adent that the Liwo will prove to be, if not better than, at least as successful as any other ship on the river

"It is therefore with confidence that I ask you to drink to the success of the Liwo, prosperity to her owners, the Indo-China Steam Navigation Company, and health and happiness to Mrs. Lo, who has christened her."

* DIFFICULT TASK

Responding on behalf of the Indo-China Steam Navigation Co., Ltd., the Hon. Mr. J. J. Paterson thanked Mr. Dodwell for his re- marks and Mr. E- Cock chief manager of the Kowloon Docks. and his experts for the care and skill they had exercised in carry- ing out a most difficult task

Mr. Cock stated that the Liwo was the 635th ship to have been constructed by the Hong Kong and Whampoa "Dock Co., in the past

50 years.

As a memento of the launching Mr. Cock presented Mrs. Lo with a gift suitable to the occasion.
