CO-OPERATION WITH U.S.A.

Proposals for the air mall ser- vice between Sydney and Auck- land, which were embodied in a set of draft heads of agreement, have now been examined by the Governments of Australia

and New Zealand. Their views have been communicated to the home Government.

Progress towards the preparation of an agreement for the operation of a service should now be rapid With the extension of the Empire air mail route to New Zealand, and the completion of the trunk air route across Canada, the ocean Linka must be developed to make the British air circuit of the world complete..

For the present the United States is working alone in the Pacific, but the association of İm- perial Airways and Pan-American Airways in the North Atlantic may no doubt be taken as a sign of what will happen eventually in the Pacific. The branch line from the main Pacific service, which goes through to San Fran- cisco, from Honolulu to Auckland 13 about 3,500 miles long, and is flown in three stages, with inter- mediate calls at Kingman Reef and Pago-Pago.
