TRACK WORK AT THE VALLEY
BY LAST QUARTER”
In continuation of my article which appeared a fortnight ago, and with the closing of entries last Saturday, I am now able to give readers further detalls regarding the new ponies for the 1938 Annual Race Meeting.
ら
The usual schooling of the poles at the starting gate has also been included as part of the general training since early Decem- ber and with few exceptions results have beca satisfactory. Constant practice, with patient directing on the part of the Jockey Club officials, tend to go a long way towards breaking in the new ponics and getting them used to the barrier. I feel certain that owners, trainers and jockeys alike are grateful for the untiring efforts of the Club officials and staff in this respect.

chestnut 15 very consistent in training and is in excellent con- dition. There is a possibility that one of the leading Shanghai jockeys will be entrusted with this promising subs Arabian Cat is keeping up the practice of the Lan stable and still doing creditable gallops though the pony appeaIS to have gone back a little on form, last Wednesday's Judging from performance. Borrachito, stable companion of the famed Gordito, will certainly uphold the "family" tradition. This grey should get a full share of the honours at the meeting and develop into one of the best subscription griffins of
in compliance with the promise made in my last article I will en deavour to devote more space to the subscription grinis; a class of racers which materially contribute towards the success of all race meetings in the Colony. The dozen or so ponies mentioned previously are still doing good track work though I am somewhat disappoint ed in the progress made by Gobi Star. This black from the Kong Bros. stable appeared promising but of late doès not seem to en- thuse over his work, However, I anderstand that the connections are deriving a small measure of compensation from the stable com- banion Desert-Star.-I-have-yet-to-this-season. Sulling Thru la the see this chestnut in a gallop, but Bave heard from" a reliable source that this sub is one of the best.
Salvage Master's Chances Salvage Master, the grey mare belonging to Wong Sul Ngau con- tinues to impress and I am con- fident that the Mayor of Talpo will have occasion to don his bowl- ér and lead her in at the race meeting.
Plet. Hein, much coveted at the draw two months ago, has only donc slow work these past two weeks but this pony moves very freely and is definitely a very good one. He has all the makings of a champion and is sure to do well. I have beard it said more than once that this bay from the Hol- landia stable was sired by King's Warden. In Louis XIV the popular Jockey and owner S. W. Tang has a fairly good mount as this 141 pony is a nice galloper and has a gallant heart

*Strong And Honest" The Leopard who will sport the Tester and Abraham colours is a useful looking grey and was full of running last Wednesday when the mile was covered in 224 with a 31.4 fast quarter. So far, Planchet belonging to Mr... F. C. Hall and Merrick from the John Peel stable have not been doing anything seri- sational but both these ponies are strong and honest, and capable later on of holding their own with the best of them. FUNG KING CHEONG
Will Not Play To-day
By Right-Half''
Fung King-cheong, idol of the Chinese football fans in the Co- lony, is being rested and will not take part in the Governor's Cup match this afternoon between the Association and the Chinese A.A. Federation.

IS KNOX IDEAL LEADER?
BY RIGHT-HALF"
Football of a very high standard should be seen at Caroline Hill this afternoon when the Hong Kong Football Association team meets the Hong Kong Chinese Amateur Athletic Federation eleven in the Governor's Cup competition,
The Chinese side won by three goals to one in the first match of this series played on November 13, and they only need a draw to-day in order to keep the Cup for the season. If, on the other hand, the Association should turn the tables on the Chinese, a " play-off will be necessary and in this event the match will pro- bably be axed for late in the season.
Leader of the Chinese attack will, therefore, be Chan Tak-fal the South China "B" star and it is felt that he will justify the can fidence placed in him by the Chi- nese selection committee.

DOCKYARD POLICE
AT HOCKEY
The Royal Naval Dockyard Po- Bice brought their "carnival week" to a close yesterday when they en- gaged detalls from the Royal Welch Fullers In 4 friendly hockey match at King's Park and were beaten by four goals to one. They had, earlier in the week, played HMS. Herald at cricket and foot- ball, winning the cricket match and losing the football encounter.
In the hockey match yesterday the Dockyard team were obviously wanting in practice though they gave the impression that with a few more games they will develop into a fairly useful team.

There are one or two criticams I have to make regarding the selec tion of the Association team for this all-important fixture.
nent, at inside-left, I am indeed very surprised that he is not given a place in the team. Saw is a clever player and he uses his head
a great deal in working out open- ings for the inside men.

Smith of the Navy, after hits grand display against the Army in the Lai Wah Cup, has been left out of the side. Of course he might have left the Colony, owing to the exigercles" of the service, | but I rather doubt that. Anyway I would have preferred him to
