For Treason"

Barnett at the Kowloon Magistracy"yesterday in delivering judgment in the case, in which Cheung Chi-wan was charged with demanding money with menaces. His Worship imposed a fine of $250 or six months' 'Imprisonment. The prison term is to date- from December 17, when the first adjournment of the case was made. UNNECESSARY DELAY Addressing the Court. His Honour sald:
"Every man is innocent until he is pronounced guilty, and if this man is acquitted to-day I think it will be very difcult for anyone to justify the delay in the pre- sentation of the case against him.
It is a grevious thing, indeed, that people should be kept waiting for trial unnecessarily. The pre- sent case is, short and the delay is as bad as it could be. I regard this matter with the utmost im portance There should be no de- lay bringing a person to trial.
