The original Nethersole Hospital, he said, was built on part of the site on which the new building now stood. It was opened in 1893, as an extension of the Allce Memorial Hospital in Hollywood Road. The site was given by the London Mis- sionary Society, the cost of the building being donated by the late Mr. H. W. Daris of the well-known frm of Messra Linstead and Davies. It was the first special hospital for women and children to be open- ed in the Colony.
DECIDED TO REBUILD The building did good service for over 10 years, but in 1934 the ravages of white ant's and dry rot had made the annual upkeep too expensive a proposition and it was decided to demolish and rebuild.
"The completed building with the adjoining Alice Memorial Hospital," said Dr: Tso, "will have accommo- dation for 100 patients. The first floor is being kept for men patients, the remainder being reserved for women and children, thus continu- ing the traditiop of the original Nethersole Hospital.
"We wish to express our grateful thanks to the Government for their generous assistance, and to all who have so generously subscribed both towards the general building fund -and-also-to-the-spettai-appeal

"I warmly congratulate the Com- mittee of the Alice Memorial and Affiliated Hospitals on their success in rebuilding this shelter for the sick and suffering. It was no small task to raise so large sum as $200,000, and I am pleased to think
that the Government was so well
advised and well-disposed as to as- sist in raising the latter half of that amount.

"We regret that Dr. R. M. Gibson. who was superintendent of these Hospitals for so many years: has not lived to see the fulfilment of his hopet in the, opening of this new building.
