A verdict of "Justifiable homi- cide" was returned by the jury at the Kowloon Police Court yester- day at the inquiry into the

surrounding circumstances

the death of a shop toki, Ho Pan, who died of gunshot, wounds on Novem- ber 13. Mr. K. Keen sat as Coroner. Assisted by a jury comprising Messts. I. D. Minhinnett (foreman), Yu Tse-chin and Hung chin-lin.

It was alleged that deceased, who together with two others - saulted a cigarette store keeper, resisted arrest and attempted, to stab and chop a Chinese constable with knife and chopper. The constable, however, in self-defence, shot deceased through the thigh, but seeing that deceased still ap- proached him in a threatening attitude, pulled the trigger of his revolver twice and one shot found its mark near the chest. Ho Pan. on being hit, dropped down and was, conveyed to the Kowloon

Poor English Of Envoys To Blame

Tokyo, Dec. 28: The poor English of "popular envoys" sent to the United States is partially to blame for the poor results of Japanese propaganda there, in the opinion of Mr. Hiroyuki Mikami, who re- turned recently from the United States.

"In radio propaganda, as in all other forms of propaganda," ne says, "Japan has suffered complete defeat on the American front, Mrs. Chiang Kai-shek and Dr. Hu Shih have broadcast throughout the United States more than once and each time they have made a great appeal because of their good English and good diction.
