England's first goal came soon after. Sousa miskicked and allow- ed Izzard to gain possession and he made no mistake. Beltrao then changed positions with V. Costa, and this move resulted in Portugal doing the attacking. but erratic shooting spoiled their op- portunities in front of the English citadel.
The Engl'sh wings were ,ex- tremely active and the Portuguese defence were giveri a busy me. Marques brought off several good saves. However, with the excep- tion of the second goal. the others were practically impossible to save. Coxney took a kick from mid- field and Marques" misjudged the ball and It passed over his head Into the goal. Once again Portu- gal raided the English goal in their effort to reduce the deficit but the backs were too steady.
