whose familles have past the -nursery stage usually have one or two cot for pram pillows which can emerge again in this new sphere of use- fulness, The existing pillow re quiries only an attractive cover of silk to match the bedspread. Fail- ing one "in stock," buy an ordi nary pillow of the cheapest kind, and make it into two by pushing half the flock down to each end, running two rows of inachine stitching across the centre, and cutting between them.

Next fix a hook to the head- board of the bed. Sew the ends of a piece of trilled elastic to the top corners of the neck pillow, and let the plastic, be long enough to pass

in real comfort if-you-have-never-round the hook and hold the had a small pillow to tuck behind your neck. It allows you to lean back, and gives the same support as an easy chair. No need to turn on one side, prop yourself miser- ably on an elbow, and finally sit right forward, with a gap benind your back.

CLOTHES FOR CHRISTMAS

HOUSE PARTIES

Fashions From Paris

Colours may be introduced into sports clothes for the winter sea-

800.

Coats have coloured linings to match Jumpers and blouses. A black three-quarter length coat from Lelong has has a black and yellow plaid Uning of of the same material as that used for the two- piece jumper dress which goes with it. Single pleats and olded fullness are correct in the fronts of walk- ing skirts. The dresses in Heim's new collection have fullness set at the back of the skirt in two and three narrow box-pleats, while the coats to go with them are flared and Alted at the aist. Paquin's sports dresses show hip-line in- terest, and a brown and white checked dress with two rising points at the neck has a low line brought round from the back and curved down the front into broad folded panel Fastenings upon simple day dresses serve as trimmings and may be set in unusual positions. A brown sports frock buttons down the left side seam with big, fat buttons to match. Shoulders are buttoned upon one or both sides and there are many back openings held with zip-fastenings,

Parisians Bre now choosing the sports clothes and evening· dresses which they will need for Christ- mas visits. Three-piece **en- sembles" consisting of tallormades and overcoats to match are in fashion. Hand-knitted blouses of fine wool may be worn with these outfits for travelling, and tailor- made blouses of washing-slk In bright colours make sultable changes. The most strictly tailor- ed "ensembles" depend upon con trasts of colour for their effects, and a loose green overcoat and skirt go with a tweed jacket striped in lighter green. A violet tailor- made can be relieved by a straw- bery-red blouse, and yellow and nigger-brown are always correct colours for the country. Instead of being severely tailored, some Jackets close right up to the neck with rows of buttons and swall Peter Pan collars which have pointed or rounded corners. Jackets may be made without collars and fasten with rows of small metal clips. Quilting makes an unusual trimming for a model in beige woollen material and, while the sleeves and back are left plain, the fronts are broken with horizontal bands of stitching in an tntricate design." "Sometimes.. a neatly fitted waistcoat with long sleeves replaces the regular Jacket, and then a blouse is superfucus and a scarf folded into the neck- line is all that is required. Moly- neux makes these waistcoats in soft suede to match his fabric skirts, and their backs and sleeves are hand-knitted in anely ribbed wool.

JEWELLED EMBROIDERIES

Heavily embroidered jackets are correct with dinner and dancing dresses. An extra short, bolero, a mere cape collar with sleeves, 1s entirely studded with big, dull black sequins. A green velvet Jacket is embroidered with a relief design

gold thread and cabochons which look more like the work of a jeweller than dressmaker. Christmas is Schiaparelli's bolero of tinsel dyed in bands of soft raltibow colours. There are long evening cloaks with shoulder em- broideries of metal thread worked in angel wings and a three-quarter length evening coat with a stiffen- ed "hem standing out all round,

Satin evening dresses are draped on statuesque lines. Amber-yellow, aquamarine-blue and

sugar-pink

are good colours. A blue satin dress from Robert Piguet is draped in long, straight lines from the neck.- with a narrow band holding the. fullness into the waist. A yellow dress has a gathered flounce round the hem-line, which is rounded up to show the feet in front, while the bodice of a dove-grey satin. dress is shirred, Dresses for dancing have full skirts made of tulle and chiffon. The bodice lines show elther high corselet effects or long slim tunics. A pink chiffon dress with a jumper bodice may have panels of material falling from the shoulders, and a yellow chiffon dress can be wom with pale salmon-pink accessories. Tulle

CHECKED FLANNEL

Long speckled tweed coats and sidrts to match are in fashion. Usually they are worn with blouses in the darkest colour of the tweed. Thus a brown and white tweed calls for a brown blouse and a black blouse may go with black and white "'ensemble." Dark blouses and Jumpers are now in fashion, and a string of pearls is usually added to relieve the severe line at the neck. Finely checked blouses in light woollen materials are correct with dark "ensembles." Green, white and brown checks go go with a brown tailor-made and brown and cream checked Bannel makes a blouse to wear with an all-pleated brown skirt and a fitted bolero-jacket.

skirt is gathered in a flat bow. Slimly atted, velvet pyjamas are made to wear with richly em- broidered jackets and boleros. Very seasonable fa a Wistaria- mauve pyjama "ensemble" with tiny glass Christmas-tree candles as buttons. Other appropriate after- noon dresses for Christmas re- ceptionis are trimmed with rows of round buttons coloured to look like tree decorations, with gilt and enamelled cupid clips 07 with hands holding red roses. Similar ornaments are worn with evening dress and dinner frock which have modest necklines and long sleeves to make them most suit- able for country-house wear. The long-sleved dinner dress lends it- self well to the neck-lines which are cut in low squares in front, or opened wide across the should- ers in the Victoria manner. Main- bocher's fringed dresses are right fo any occasion. They, may be white or pale blue and are fringed all over in abort looped layers instead of in long panels as former models were worked, Facecloth.
