ever-popular Irish filmm star. Pat O'Brien has the title role in "The Great O'Malley," a melo- drama of life in New York's colourful East Side which opens at the Majestic Theatre to-day.

VISUAL EDUCATION

DEMONSTRATION

With the dawn of the motion picture era carly in this century, it was realised that some day the cinema would prove u boon as an educational medium, quite apart from its value as an entertainer,

That anticipation has since am- ply been realised, for to-day the cinema is a great teacher and in the field of visual education, it is supreme.

Visual education through the cinema was brought to Hong Kong some 18 months ago by Mr. H. H. Coirs of the Filmo Depot. Since then many shows have been given in various schools including the Diocésan Boys' School, St. Stephen's College, Queen's College and others. About a month ago, Mr. Corra was able to convince the Hong Kong Teachers' Association of the value of visual education and a special demonstration was given to trachers at the Filmo Depot orice. } Yesterday another demonstration was held at which the local Press was also represented.

room

'The sound projector used was of a very light portable type which can easily be installed in a class The film and the whole equipment is non-inflammable which eliminates the necessity for securing a special permit from the police or the installation of a special projecting room,

The demonstration given yester- day proved beyond a doubt that a visual education scheme can be introduced with great benent in Hong Kong.

It is understood that the 1,400 feet of film taken recently by Mr. Corra for the Fan American Air- ways at Macao and Hong Kong have turned out a great success and that the film was sent to the United States for final editing last Sunday by the China Cupper. Hong Kong folk will look forward with interest to seeing the local scenes of the film.

JAPANESE

"HOOLIGANISM"

London, Dec. 16.

"A definite stop” to the attacks is the phrase in the British Note to Japan chosen by the morning papers for ponderous headines,

The "Times" gives prominence to a dispatch from its correspondent, Mr. C. M. Macdonald, who was on board the "Panay," stating" that after the vessel was abandoned she Was machine-gunned by two Japanese motor boats whose crews subsequently boarded the American gunboat
