HAND.BELL MUSIC IN ST. PAUL'S

First Time In History

For, the first time in history hand-bells were rung in St. Paul's" Cathedral recently. A service was held there to celebrate the found- ing 300 years ago of the Ancient Society of College Youths.

After the service a dinner was held at Cannon-street Hotel, E.C and among the guests were the Earl of Shaftesbury, himself a

ringer at the parish church of St. Glles, Dorset, and the Duke of Argyll.

Mr. Wilkins and Mrs. Hairs, the only two women members of the society, were also present.

The Lord Mayor of London, sald: "We are fortunate in the City in Possessing the best-known bells in the world-those of St.-Mary-le Bow. They called back Dick Whit- tington to be thrice Lord Mayor of London, and are now heard in all parts of the world where wireless is known."
