Alleged Theft Of Gunny Bags

Three unemployed youths, Chan Pin. Chan Ngan and Chan Ho, were charged before Mr. K. Keen at the Kowloon Police Court yesterday with theft of 65 gunny bags from the Shan Hing buliding contrac

tora.

Detective-Sergt. H J. Baldwin' said that on the day' previous to the theft, Chan Ngan went to the firm and asked to buy a number of gunny bags. The price quoted did not sult him." On the follow- ing day together with the two other defendants he went again to the firm and agreed to purchase the sacks at the price asked for. The master and accountant of the

firm placed 155 sacks for inspec- tion. Having got the sacks the three defendants dusted them vio- lently causing a cement "fog" in the godown, causing the master and accountant to leave the pre- mises. During the absence of the owners It was alleged that the three defendants slipped a number of sacks to two others through the. back door which was forced open. dust cleared and the When the owners returned and found that a great number of the sacks were missing they had a quarrel. A further remand of 48 hours was granted by Mr. Keen when the carpenter refused to attend Court to give evidence saying that he had lost much business and money on two previous occasions when he had to attend Court for a remand.

In the claim. It was stated that the defendants detained from the plaintiffs. the goods and chattels consisting of new and old pan roll tiles to the value of $77.84, parti- culars of which were as follows: 2,750 new pan tiles valued at $190.90, and 3,920 old roll tiles valued at $35.28.
