NANKING NEARING

ZERO HOUR

Valuable Property Destroyed To Outwit Enemy

Hankow, December 8.

Nanking is rapidly nearing zero hour, according to a telephone messare this morning. "The Japanese are reported to have reach- ed Pukow, across the river, and to have consolidated their posi- tions at the gates of the capital. The garrison commander of Nanking has ordered the residential district around the Sun Yat- sen National Park, outside the walls, to be burned down, in order to be able to observe Japanese movements.

Besides the magnificent Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum, this district comprises the National Stadium, the open air Auditorium and the Presidential Palace, which was, however, not occupied since its crection. The private house of President Lin Sen is also situated there, at the slopes of Purple Mountain, and three orphanages de- dicated by Madame Chiang to the memory of the 72 Heroes and" the Shanghai Dead.-Transocean.
