"A story of extreme cruelty by a mother towards her own child was told by, Mr. H. W. Fraser of the Secretariat of Chinese Affairs at the Central Magistracy yester. day, when, before Mr. R. A. D. Forrest, he prosecuted Chu Sze, 22-year, old married woman, with ill-treating her daughter:

His Worship (to defendant): Whether or not it is the custom in your native village you can't do that sort of thing in Hong Kong Kong. You, as a mother, should feel more tenderness in your heart to any child, let alone your own You will go to prison for four months with hard labour.".
