Claim Against State

A 78-year-old shipowner, who was suid to have borrowed money from his friends to finance a shipping company's claim against the Board of Trade appeared .at. Stockton bankruptcy court recently for public examination with a deficiency of £130,696.

He is Jacob Kruse Muller Hessler, of Esk House, Fim-grove, West Hartlepool, carrying on business st Shipping Chambers, West Hartlepool, Norwegian by birth, he has lived in West Hartlepool since 1871 and was naturalised in 1899.

Gross liabilities, amounted £144,366, of which $130,742 - was expected to rank for dividend, and' assets were given as £45.

Hessler said that between 1915 and 1916 he promoted with another person two shipping companies. An order for compulsory liquida- tion of one company was made in 1923.
