AIR MAIL, TYPHOON DAMAGE

AND PRISON VOTES

Supplementary votes totalling $683,339 will come up for con- sideration before the meeting of the Finance Committee to be held this afternoon in the Council Chamber at the conclusion of the Legislative Council meeting.

One of the items, which is a vote for $37,000, concerns a new submarine cable to be laid between Hong Kong and Kowloon. The old one has been damaged beyond repair, and as imper- tant services depend on it, a new cable has been ordered.

The items include several votes for repairs as a result of the disastrous typhoon "öf September 2. The typhoon caused damage to Government buildings in the New Territories to the extent of $330,000; in the New Kowloon district to the total of $28,000; Dis- trict Office South $200; Hong Kong $225,000; and Kowloon dis- trict $33,009.
