CABLE AREA

Captain Of "Sagres”

Summoned

..Capt. J. M. Marren, master of the 5.S. Sagres, appeared before Commander J. B. Newill at the Marine Court yesterday in answer to a summons for unlawfully an- choring his ship in the Victoria Cable Area at 1.50 p.m. on Novem-

ber 10,

Mr. D. L. Strellett of Messrs. G. K. Hall Brutton & Co., represent- ed Capt. Marren, whilst Mr. H. J. Armstrong watched the case on behalf of the Douglas Steamship Company.

Sergeant Innes said in evidence "that he went alongside the Sagres when she was off Blake Pier and shouted to the Captain that he was anchoring in an area where there were cables running in line with the pier. When the anchor was hauled up, it brought a cable to the surface. The cable was

freed by lying a rope to it and letting go of the anchor.

Leung Pul, coxswam of the Po- lice Launch, gave evidence corro- borating the statement of Sergeant Innes.

Captain Marren said that the' chlei offeer Informed" him after they had let down the port anchor that they had picked up a cable. A seaman was lowered to release

cable. He further stated that

he was not east of Blake Pier as stated by Sergeant Innes, but east of the Douglas Wharf.
