"At the resumed hearing of the inquest before Mr. K. Keen (Coro- ner) and a jury at the Kowloon magistracy yesterday into the cir cumstances surrounding the death of Chan Sun, who died on August 31. Chan Fat, tallor, who knew the deceased, continued his evidence of the arrest and detention of the two alleged suspects. Wong Lap and deceased, for enquiries re- garding the theft of a sewing ma- chine and some cloth belonging to Witness.
It will be recalled that at the previous, hearings. medical evi- dence showed that Chan Sun had died from rupture of the spleen. He also had three fractured ribs. Chan Sun, according to evidence, died while on the way to the Kwong Wah Hospital from the Shamshulpo Police Station where, It was alleged, he had been as saulted by a Chinese detective.
Chan Sun and his friend Wong Lap, were arrested by the police following the discovery of the loss. of a sewing machine and clothing material on the morning of Au- gust 31. They were detained at the Shamshulpo Police Station for several hours or the same even-" Ing. After being questioned in- dividually three times in a sciall room where Wong Lap alleged he had been assaulted, they were re- leased.
