The humaneness of the British troops who risked their lives to help refugees from the fighting zones and gave first aid to those wounded has created the deepest Impression.
Mayor O. K. Yul, speaking to of the world's representatives press, said that the whole Chinese community in Shanghal joined in the thanks, which he has also extended to the U. S. Marines and the Italian Savoy Grenadiers.
Instances of their gallantry are too frequent to specify, but typical was an instance yesterday when eight men of the Royal Ulster Rifles, seeing 15 Chinese women and children trying to cross the damaged Jessfield Bridge, went to help them despite machine gun fre from Japanese.
Taking their lives in their hands, the British Tommies rescued the whole party except one woman who died. Several children who 'were back to carried wounded safety.
