AUSTRALIAN CRUISES.

The Australian Squadron under the cominand of Rear-Admimi R. H. O. Lane-Poole, C.B., O.B.E. will make a spring cruise on the sta- tion from October 27 to December 2. It wil include the cruisers Canberra (flagship) and Australia, the Botilla Icader Stuart, and the destroyers Swan, Waterhen. and Vendetta. The ports to be visited include Melbourne, October 29- November 8 Port Philip. Novem- ber 8-11; and Jervis November 12.

Clothing, curios and pieces of Jewellery, including a sum of $800, all to the total of $1422, were stolen from a house at No. 165, Laichikok Road in the early hours of October 12, by four burglars

Following a report made by the complainant, Tang Kun Kum. Detective-Sergt. F. Nolan, station- ed at Shumshulpo Police Station, made a thorough investigation and as a result of which the four men were rounded up and brought be- tore Mr. E. Himsworth at the Kow- loon Police Court yesterday. charged with burglary and re- ceiving stolen property. A Afth man, named Ng Yau, who was ar- rested while in the company of the others, and who had in his possession a woollen pullover, was also charged with receiving.

Early in the morning of October 20, the arst two defendants, Chung -Chol and Cho Kl-chun, together with the receiver, were arrested at Pak Hoi Street..

A little later, two other burglars Chan Kam and Cheung Kam were also taken into custody.

ILL-TREATING A

"YOUNG WIFE"

A farmer and his wife, who had bought a young wife. for their son, appeared before Mr. K. Keen at the Kowloon Police Court yesterday morning for treating the young lady.

The girl, Tse Tal, aged 13, was sold to defendants when she was 6 years old as "a future daughter- in-law."

On October 24, She was given a quantity of bean curd to sell. On returning with some which she could not dispose of, she was bamboo scolded, beaten with a

broom and burnt with joss sticks. Her father and aunt, who were staying near defendants' house, went to stop the assault as they heard her cries, but were told to mind their own business.

On the following day, Li Tai, her aunt, took her to the Police Station where they made a re- port or the incident.

Cheung Chung. the farmer pleaded guilty to the charge while his wife Yip Ting, after the evidence was taken was also found guilty.
