The visit, has no political signi- ficance and was suggested several months ago and approved by the Secretary of State for the Colonies. Its pustponement has been due to the situation in China during re- cent months but, as no such visit has been paid since 1933, the Secretary of State is anxious that this courtesy should it possible not await the arrival of Sir Geoffry Northcote.

Canton, Oct. 16. With the closing of the Canion- Kowloon Railway. steamship com- panies are reviving the plea to re- open the Pearl River for trans- portation and communication.

Canton to-day and make a report on the possibility of removing the barrier in the interest of shipping. Foreign shipping circles here be- heve that the boom may be re- moved during the passage of steamers and that in the event o danger the boom may be replaced again.
