CHINESE REPULSE JAPANESE ATTACK
Shanghai, Oct. 3: The feet of Japanese tanks and two columns of infantrymen, which have been pounding the Chinese "lines along east Paoshing Road in Chapel for uver five hours, have been repulsed, Chinese Headquarters announced this morning.
The Chinese used a new method to hold back the Japanese "ron horses" by settling fire to a number of small alleyways where the tanks
were coming, making it too hot for the men inside the cars who were forced to turn back.
The Japanese also applied a smoke-screen to cover the advance and although they broke through the Chinese lines at several points last night they were all back in their original positions this morn- ing.
Meanwhile, the Japanese are also massing a number of tanks in the southern section of North Szechuan Road preparing to launch another attack on the Chapel sector.- Central News.
