ENGINEER CAPTAIN HALL. Engineer Commander F. H. Hall was placed on the retired list re-- 'cently on attaining the age limit. He has had 30 years' commissioned service, naving passed out from Keyham College as engineer sub- lleutenant on August 1, 1907. Throughout the War he served as engineer lleutenant and Heutenant- commander in the cruiser Lan- caster on the North America and Pacific Stations, and was promoted te engineer, commander. In 1928 while in H.M.S. Defiance, torpedo school-ship at Devonport. His subsequent ships have included the Yarmouth, signal" cruiser, the Cardiff, on the Africa Station, the aircraft-carrier Hern:es. at Devon- port, and the Iron Duke, gunnery firing ship. He has also served at the dockyards at Devonport and Hong Kong.
COMMAND OF THE VANOC Commander A. P. Celthurst has been appointed in command of the destroyer Vanoc, in the Local De- fence Flotilla, Gibraltar, from Monday next. In succession to Commander St. V. Sherbrooke, For 13 years Commander Colthurst has been a pilot in the Fleet Air Arm, and since June. 1836. has been in command of the training squadron at the R.A.F. Station, Gosport. He has held the rank of squadron, leader, R.A.F.. since January, 1934.
ASSISTANT NAVAL ATTACHE Recent naval appointments in- cluded that of Commander (E) G. Hearson to be Assistant Naval Attaché, Europe, from September 22. Commander Hearson, who will
have his-headquarters-in-Berlin was promoted to his present rank ir December last. Before then he
