are la most urgent need and would be grateful for anything you can send as soon as you can send it.

Hankow is practically out of drugs and we have not only to meet Red Cross demands but to help the hospitals q11 through Central and West China in getting stocks for their ordinary hospital work. We are particularly badly off as regards anaesthetics, chloro- form ether and alcohol; and would be very grateful if you could for- wurd us a consignment at once.

I am enclosing a paper which will show you what we are doing here. I have been in touch with J. Heng Liu and hope that he will join up in making this a centre of distribution as Nanking is now almost impossible for this. You will have seen in the papers that this place was attacked by planes yesterday, with considerable loss of life and a large number of wounded. Indeed. I was up all last night helping to operate on them at the Union Hospital. There are wounded soldiers also coming in

Many children, like the Uttle innocent pictured above, have been killed by ruthless Japanese bombing of non-combatants.
