Happy Venture (Mr. S. G. Yuen) delayed the start considerably by running round the track once, all on his own but this adventure was the "death of him" for after this he was out of the picture. Coron. allon. Day looked as though he might be there but the running was too fast for him and he had to be satisfied with tourth place. Mr. S. E. Liang rode excellently to bring Shipmaster first past the post while Tempest was second and Mariposa dead-heated with Atomic Star for third place.

The anal of the Gutierrez In- ternational Lawn Bowls Shield was played on the Club de Recreio green yesterday afternoon and re- sulted in a win for England over India by eleven shots, the score in the English rink's favour being 22-11.
India were generally outplayed and did not register her first single until the eighth head. England then had collected 13 shots. At the 16th head England led 19-0. On the next head India scored a fcur and added single on the 20th head after which they never scored again.
3. A. Bright, playing No. I for England, was outstandingly good. He paved the way head after head for his team. In fact it Was Bright's magnificent display that won the match for England.
