In a critical review of the situation in the Far East, the "Angriff" says it is "almost a ques- tion of conscience” for Europeans generally and Germans particularly, whether they decided in favour of either China or Japan.

JAPANESE MECHANISED UNIT ON PEIPING-HANKOW LINE Nanking. Sept. 18: One of the largest and most modern mechan. ised forces ever put into-operation by the Japanese Army is now being used in the hostilities along the Peiping-Hankow railway line, it is learned here.

In addition to a fleet of tanks and armoured cars which have been able to break through several sections of the Chinese lines along the Yungting River, more than 80 planes have wreaked havoc on a number of cities along the line during the last few days.
