Jewelry und jewelled head- dresses are now shown in the new season's fashions. Draped evening gowns of velvet and heavy crêpe are shown with turbans of those materials or with twisted folds which leave the top of the head bare, Velvet ribbon is lightly round a curled up colffure, and Anishes in front with a lightly wired upstanding bow, Close- atting caps of stranded sequins or jet on tulle are treated in the

same

daytime way. For

wear turbans and small toques are of heavy printed crêpes, silk foulards, and stiff surah silks. the BC- companying blouse being in the same material.

On an evening dress of heavy white crepe. cut on very simple, nes, there is a wide belt of many coloured flak sequins. worked diagonally, A butterfly bow, of sequins worked in the same way is worn high on the hair. These butterflies for the evening are in multi-coloured stones. miniature butterflies being worn in the cars. For day wear they look best in white Allgree in the form of brooches with matching earclips. A butterfly with a metal body has wings of stiffened crêpe de Chine, and is worn clipped on to the revers of a tailored suit or at the side of a plair. felt hat. Diamond stars look well in dark hair for the evening. Two large stars may be worn on one side, or as many as four or five small stars scatter- ed over a brushed-back coiffure. Tiny combs of chiselled gold which hold the curls back behind the ears are worn with flat, round gold earclips.

There is much variety in colour and design on brooches and ear: clips designed for daytime wear, A bunch of enamelled forget-me- nots with gold leaves has minia- ture earclips to match. Ruby-red currants are treated in the same

worn way. Cornflowers

in the buttonhole of a dark tailored sult have matching cornflowers for the ears. Jewelled flowers and fruit also appear on gilt vanity boxes and cigarette cases.

On dark woollen dresses. for sports wear are seen large colour- ed clips of crystal or leather.

Renee, on the designing staff at RKO Radio, created the gown.

Girlish Hair

A perfect coiffure for the young giri is the one worn by titian-haired Aahe Shirley, RKO Radio star. The hair is drawn back softly from tto face, allowing Anne's natural wave to assert itself. The back and aldo hair is rolled into loose, sof curls. Anne is currently in the in genuo role of "Too Many Wives." with John Morley and Gene Lock hart, and will play in "Missus Ämter ira" with Victor Moore and Helen Broilerick.

which provide the only note colour. Coloured pearls are worn with dark town dresses, as when a ecklace of five rows of bright blue pearls is shown with a black irock.

Much of the plainer costume jewelry shows 3 Victorian in- fluence. Heavy gold bracelets are worn on the wrist and no longer high up on the arm. A bracelet of this type has a large, black enamel knob in the centre which cevolves to show a tiny watch underneath. Others are decorated with jewelled flowers OF fruits which can be removed to use as buttons on the front of a dress. Gold chains with large links are wurn singly or in several strands fastened by a plaque with jewelled Hower design. With these brace- lets go solid gold clips chased or jewelled to match. Big bunches of gold balls or pearls arranged like cluster of grapes make clips designed for afternoon wear, and flowers with gold stems and leaves are set 1 tiny picture frames to give a cabuchon effect.

R

On the simple draped and high necklines of the new season's day aresses Victorian lockets,

snake chains, and cameos look parti- cularly effective. A round brooch of antique gold metal is worn on the centre panel of shirred velvet shako cap. It has a match- ing bracelet with cabuchon fastening, and the accompanying handbag is of shirred velvet with heavy gold chain handle. A more modern trimming" takes the form of a large clip and matching bracelet made of small white wooden bells and beads which dangle at neck and wrist.
